Transcripts, transcripts, and more transcripts.

On this page, I am providing some examples of what I reviewed  and analyzed for the style manual.

EXAMPLES

The examples show the pages I reviewed from Realtime Reporters which include title pages, index pages, and other important components contained within a transcript.   These examples were used to create the instructions in the manual and the appendices.

PREFERENCES

The preference sheet was provided to reporters as a guideline for some things they may encounter in their transcript.  I took this preference sheet and broke it down into different sections of the style manual, creating a more user-friendly document.   Some of the things contained in the preference sheet were not added to the manual at this time because Realtime Reporters have changed the way they do things since this sheet was first created.

WV CODE 47-27-1

In 2015, the West Virginia Legislature  enacted a new law detailing guidelines for transcripts that must be followed by freelance reporters.  Realtime Reporters complies fully with this law and it is essential that it be contained within the style manual so reporters have easy access to it.  The entire section of West Virginia Code 47-27-1 is attached as an appendix to the style manual.

In addition, I took specific sections from this law and incorporated them into the manual in the format section so that there would be no confusion as to what was expected from a reporter when producing their transcript.

COMPARISONS

While looking through the numerous transcripts, I made note of some of the things reporters do differently.  A couple examples are how reporters mark exhibits and how they indicate nonverbal responses.   While there is no right or wrong way to do this, the goal of the style manual was to create consistency throughout all transcripts.    After speaking with Teresa Evans, she chose the style she preferred and it was added to the manual for the reporters to reference when they had questions.
